The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Popular Battle Royale Developer to Revitalize Troubled Hero Shooter Ambitious Title
2K Games has welcomed Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Shift Follows Lukewarm Response
The new appointee steps into the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' lackluster initial reveal last autumn.
On Wednesday, the company's top executive David Ismailer informed staff about this decision through an internal memo, which emphasized that playtesting had shown the need for a clearer game identity.
Ismailer expressed that the developers is now overhauling Project Ethos with a revised approach, aiming to better meet community desires.
Trend of Key Recruitment
The news follows a comparable move taken by the publisher in August, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the beloved franchise development group.
Here is the complete content from the president's announcement:
Hello Everyone—
I know you all just finished your meeting - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the positive developments. Last time I sent you all a note, I expressed the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most dedicated and creative designers we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that partnership to endure.”
Through your commitment and versatility, particularly over the last year, you continue to prove that.
The player input from last autumn’s the game testing phase was enlightening. It affirmed the promise of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had refinements needed. It uncovered the need for a clearer brand.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You accepted the criticism to consideration and revamped the title with a renewed direction - one that’s poised to deliver on its ambition to our fans.
The belief in Project ETHOS grows every day. To further the incredible development you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce Ben Brinkman as the incoming Director of the team. After a period of conversations, Ben officially joins us on the specified date.
Ben’s management and experience in the competitive gaming genre is vast, having dedicated the last 15 years creating and managing some of the most popular titles in the industry, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
I invite you all in welcoming him next week. We are all eager to continue witnessing the development of the game in the time to ahead.
The President
